The KHS-Maxxis-JLVelo Cycling Team had a fantastic showing at the North Star Grand Prix. The event spans 5 days and 6 stages, beginning with a 5 mile time trial. Chris Barton logged the fastest time of the team, landing just 2 seconds off of the podium in 6th place. From there, the team continued to improve on their stage finishes by animating the criteriums and road races, ultimately winning the penultimate stage on Sunday – the Stillwater Criterium.

Von Nacher 2nd Overall at Tulsa Tough

The KHS-Maxxis-JLVelo returned to Tulsa Tough for the 5th year in a row. In 2014, Fabrizio Von Nacher and the team won the overall of the NCC event in an exciting finale on Cry Baby Hill. The 2015 installment of the race would prove to be just as exciting, with Von Nacher narrowly missing the top step of the podium on the final day. The team fielded a squad of 6 for the 3 stage omnium event. Brian McCulloch, Chris Barton, Ulises Castillo, Shawn Wayland, and Efren Flores raced each event with the hopes of helping Fabrizio gain the lead.

Chris Barton raced the event in 2013 with the team, and he was excited to return to the event this year.

“My fitness is much better than it was in 2013, so this year’s Tulsa Tough was much more enjoyable for me. That being said, I think the level of competition still caught me a bit off-guard the first night and forced me to step up my game fast!

My favorite part of Tulsa Tough is the fans. We went out each day and gave everything we had to the race, and the fans gave it right back. No words can describe the enthusiasm of the crowd on Crybaby Hill!” Continue reading “Von Nacher 2nd Overall at Tulsa Tough”

KHS at the 12 Hours of Temecula

Some photos sent from Bryan VanVleet. His four man team lapped the field at the 12 Hours of Temecula and won by a lap and a half.  They’re in the points lead going into the race series final in November.

Bryan has been riding the Full Suspension Team 29 FS and loves the speed and how it performs. VanVleet-Vail-race-finish-rgb-800 VanVleet-Vail-race-jump-rgb-800

The Manhattan Grand Prix is one of toughest NCC Criteriums on the calendar. Being part of the national series, the prize purse was listed at $12,000 and the event drew talented competition from across the country. The KHS-Maxis-JLVelo cycling team had 6 athletes at the race – Chris Barton, Ulises Castillo, Brian McCulloch, Shawn Wayland, David Santos and Fabrizio Von Nacher.

The race was animated from the start as riders were attacking, attempting to make a breakaway stick on the fast course. Historically, breakaways have been futile on this course and the bunch sprint seemed to be inevitable. However, with only 15 minutes having ticked off the clock and there was a lull in the group, David Santos and Hilton Clarke (UHC) launched an attack that would be the winning move. The Power of One, By Brian McCulloch

It goes without saying that bicycle racing is a complex sport. Everyone who rides knows about the myriad of challenges that are out of a riders control out on the road, and one can imagine that adding 100+ Type-A riders that have a thirst for success can only complicate matters. Cycling is the only sport that I am aware of, in which every participant has a chance to win the race. Over a hundred riders or sometimes over two-hundred can be in any given event, one can begin to appreciate the importance and difficulty of achieving a win. This past Sunday at the Ladera Ranch Grand Prix, I achieved the win and felt the power of its importance. Continue reading “The Power of One, By Brian McCulloch”
