The seconds day of the 805 Criterium Weekend takes place in Buellton, The Avenue of The Flags Criterium. This is the 3rd year of this race being held and our riders knew that due to the wind and course design, the field would be split into pieces. With Fabrizio placed 2nd overall, the team set out to put him in position to take over the overall omnium lead. Athlete Octane and the Gritters of the Rokform team set the pace early initiating moves that quickly began splitting the field. McCulloch and Santos were active at the front, ensuring that our team was represented.

With splits happening in the field, it was obvious a solid breakaway would get up the road. Realizing that Holloway in the Green Leaders Jersey was isolated in the field, Santos helped Fabrizio bridge across to the breakaway. The move included our two riders, Canevari of Athlete Octane and Tom Soladay of Optum.

With the Green Jersey in the second group which included KHS rider Jondall, the breakaway lapped the 3rd group on the road with 10 laps remaining. This was an ideal situation since the group contained McCulloch and Williams. The team quickly assembled at the front to keep the pace high in order to not allow the second group containing Holloway to join. With 3 laps to go, the gap was wide enough that the team knew the green jersey would not get across and it was time to start putting the lead out together.

Having done the lions share of the work to keep the pace high, our team suffered in the last lap, leaving Fabrizio to surf wheels going into the last 500 meters. He was up against seasoned sprinter Kyle Gritters and Anthony Canevari who capitalized on the situation to win the stage.

Since the green jersey was not in the lead group of five, Fabrizio gather enough points to take over the omnium lead and our teams first leaders jersey of the season!
