The KHS-Maxxis pb JAKROO team headed to the Bay Area this past weekend to race the San Rafael Twilight Criterium. Our sponsor iRT Wheels was one of the main sponsors for the event and we wanted to capitalize on the chance to meet up with our sponsors from iRT and JAKROO Custom Clothing while also having the chance to compete in a great bike race. The trip north proved to be well worth the effort, both on and off the bike with Fabrizio Von Nacher finishing 2nd and teammate David Santos 5th in a race that the team did the lions share of animating from the gun.
Fabrizio Von Nacher reports on his podium finish at San Rafael Twilight Criterium:
“It was my first San Rafael twilight, I have been just hearing how awesome the crowds and the event show was. Me and my teammates got to downtown San Rafael and like other rider have been telling us, it was a huge party in the streets. The plan was for my teammates Sergio Escutia, Steven Davis and Brian McCulloch to cover all the moves the first 20 minutes of the 90 minute race. These three guys did a great job. Dave Santos and I didn’t worry about the race in the first 20 minutes, but after those 20 minutes it was Dave and my turn to be aggressive and sooner than later, I saw an opportunity and I told Dave to go on the attack with me.
We both made it in the break of 6 and started rolling it. After awhile, some guys didn’t want to work anymore so I decide to split the break and attack and bring with me two guy’s. We were off the front for a while and with 20 minutes to go, I decided to go solo. I went solo for a few laps and eventually the two guys that were in the break with me started to work together and brought me back. With 4 laps to go, the group was 5 sec behind us so I decide to attack the break but I didn’t get away. Connor from Airgas countered my attack and opened a little gap and the group cought me and the other guy. I wasn’t going to give up after all the effort I did before, so I fought to stay in a good position and win the field sprint and get second after a super hard race.
