Elevate KHS’s James Piccoli wins Tour de Beauce

Quebec’s James Piccoli ( Elevate KHS Pro Cycling ) won the 33rd Tour de Beauce on Sunday in the streets of Saint-Georges.

Winner of the criterium Saturday in Quebec City, Piccoli was 8th in the overall standings at the start of this last stage. A victorious breakaway with a sufficient gap allows him to climb on the highest step of the final podium.

Against all odds, the new champion of the 2018 edition has filled a gap of 1 min 10 sec to finish fourth in this fifth stage and thus get his hands on the yellow jersey he had not worn once since the beginning of the week. This is obviously his best career victory on a UCI event.

” I can not believe it ! I never thought about it during the stage. I knew it was close to two laps from the end. My teammate Jordan Cheyne did an amazing job up front. It’s an honor, “said the new champion.

The last Canadian to win the Tour de Beauce was Svein Tuft in 2008, but Jacques Landry was the last Quebec champion in 1994. Twenty-four years later, Piccoli has made his name on the charts. For full article click HERE
