National Championships Span Three Countries This Weekend!

Cycling Canada National Championships

Monday July 1st Criterium 

James Piccoli narrowly missed repeating his overall victory at the Tour de Beauce this past week, finishing 2nd on the General Classification. Each rider of our Canadian contingency finished on the podium at the event – Adam Roberge was 2nd in the Time Trial, Jordan Cheyne 2nd in the Criterium, and James Piccoli won the 2nd stage solo. The racing returns to Beauce, QB again this weekend for the Canadian National Championship events. 

US Pro National Championships

Schedule:

Thursday June 27th Time Trial, 34.4K 

Friday June 28th Criterium, 80 minute race at 7:25PM EST

Sunday June 30th, US Pro Road Race, 190K over 15 laps, race begins at 1:15PM EST

In 2018, Sam Bassetti finished 2nd in the criterium at the US National Championships, and Eric Young won the coveted Stars and Stripes Jersey in both 2011 and 2013. The combination of their experience and recent success in the 2019 season places them as favorites going into the race. 

George Simpson will be racing the Time Trial on Thursday, fresh off of winning the the Colorado State Time Trial Championship and an impressive 3rd place at the Tour of the Gila Time Trial in May. 

Rounding out the squad of four is Kyle Swanson who finished 2nd at the U23 National Championship Criterium this past weekend in Hagerstown, MD.

Racing will take place in Knoxville, TN for the 3rd year. 

Mexican National Championships

Alfredo Rodriguez

Both Ulises and Alfredo are well suited for the challenging course at altitude in Tiaxcala. Ulises won the Winston Salem UCI 1.2 Road Race last month and both he and Alfredo finished on the podium at Armed Forces Cycling Classic as well as Tulsa Tough to begin racing in the month of June.
